Where to Ride Motocross in Latvia: 7 Tracks for Beginners and Experienced Riders

Updated: May 14, 2026

Latvia has more than ten active motocross tracks. The best options for beginners are sports complex "333" in Ropaži and MLMOTO in Slampe — both offer bike and gear rental plus instructor-led lessons. Experienced riders can train at world-level Smeceres sils in Madona, plus Misiņkalns in Aizpute, Aloja, Pīlādži in Stelpe, and Silavotiņi in Saldus. The season mostly runs April–October, with two enclosed tracks open year-round.

What you need before going to a motocross track

Before going to any motocross track in Latvia, you need three things: a roadworthy motocross bike, full safety gear (Ad-rated helmet, goggles, chest and spine protection, motocross boots, gloves) and a pre-booked track time slot. Most Latvian tracks operate through phone reservations rather than online booking systems.

If you don't own a bike, beginner-friendly tracks with rental are the way to start — "333" in Ropaži and MLMOTO in Slampe both rent motorcycles and gear together with one-on-one instruction. The large championship tracks (Madona, Aizpute, Aloja, Stelpe) usually require your own bike and a Latvian Motorsport Federation (LaMSF) license if you want to compete.

The competitive season actively begins in April with the Latvia championship opener in Aizpute and closes in September at Pīlādži in Stelpe. Only the enclosed-type tracks operate year-round — "333" and MLMOTO are the only places where you can ride during winter, weather permitting. For the full Latvia motorsport calendar and track licensing details, see the LaMSF official site.

1. Sports complex "333" / Raceway Baltic — Ropaži

The best choice for beginners. Sports complex "333" in Ropaži sits just 30 km from central Riga and offers a 999-metre motocross track with a sand-clay surface, alongside a parallel enduro track and a separate children's track for 50 cc bikes. All tracks are enclosed-type and operate year-round regardless of weather.

Sports complex 333 Ropaži enduro and motocross track

"333" / Raceway Baltic — Latvia's only enclosed motocross and enduro complex with year-round operation.

The tracks were designed in collaboration with Latvia's most decorated enduro rider Lauris Ermanis and top motocross competitor Toms Macuks, with professional riders running both individual and group training sessions. The day rate is €10 per day for the motocross or enduro track and €8 per day for the children's track (up to 50 cc).

Beginners can rent a bike and full gear and combine it with a first-time instructor lesson — this makes "333" the easiest entry point in Latvia for anyone without their own equipment. After the session, you have access to showers, a self-service bike wash and gear-laundry facilities. Book at 333.lv or call +371 29 555 333. Address: "Sila Priedes", Ropaži municipality.

2. MLMOTO motocross track — Slampe, Tukums district

MLMOTO sits in Slampe parish, about an hour's drive west of Riga and close to the town of Tukums. The track length is 1050 metres with a medium-firm earth surface — a good balance between developing technique and keeping it manageable for newcomers. A single training day costs €10 per bike, and the track operates weekdays by phone booking.

MLMOTO in Slampe — 1050 metres of dirt track plus motorcycle rental and beginner training.

MLMOTO's main strength is the motorcycle rental service combined with beginner instruction. It is one of very few motocross centres in Latvia where someone without their own bike can practically try the sport in full gear with an instructor's support. If your first session goes well, you can step up to the bigger championship tracks across the country.

Book at mlmoto.lv or call +371 26178169. Address: "Gailēni", Slampe parish, Tukums district. The site also offers motorcycle service and repair.

3. Smeceres sils motocross track — Madona

Smeceres sils in Madona is Latvia's only world-championship-level motocross track. On July 25–26, 2026, it hosts a round of the FIM Sidecarcross World Championship plus the European Quadcross Championship, followed by a Latvia Championship round on August 15–16. The track is built into natural hilly terrain with a sandy-gravel surface and long jumps.

Smeceres sils in Madona — one of Latvia's hilliest and most technical motocross tracks.

This is the home track of brothers Daniels and Bruno Lielbārži, who in 2025 won their first World Championship round in Madona on home soil. Smeceres sils opens training slots to non-competitors outside race weekends — these can be booked directly on the track's website by submitting the date and time you'd like.

For complete beginners, the track is technically demanding, so first sessions are better at "333" or MLMOTO. But once you have basic riding skills, Smeceres sils is Latvia's reference track — training here means riding the same terrain where the world's top sidecar and quadcross athletes compete. Address: Smeceres sils, Lazdona parish, Madona municipality. Booking: smeceressils.lv, phone +371 29347575.

4. Misiņkalns motocross track — Aizpute

The Misiņkalns motocross track in Aizpute, southern Kurzeme, is where the Latvia Championship season opens each year. In 2026, round one ran April 11–12 (with April 25–26 as the reserve dates). The track passed its 25-year anniversary in 2025 with the first major reconfiguration in a decade — adding more technical segments and new lines suited to advanced manoeuvres.

Misiņkalns in Aizpute — traditional opening venue of the Latvia Championship with an updated track layout.

Misiņkalns is a classic Latvian motocross track — open terrain, natural dirt, and well-built start grids. The event organiser is RAMO MOTORSPORT, and the track regularly hosts Latvia- and Baltic-level competitions plus training sessions for non-competitors. Before driving out, confirm training availability and track times by phone at +371 29397995.

Address: Brīvības iela 54, Aizpute, Dienvidkurzeme district. More venue information is published on the Southern Kurzeme tourism portal.

5. Aloja motocross track — Northern Vidzeme

The Aloja motocross track in Limbaži region is one of the oldest and most tradition-rich motocross venues in Latvia. In 2026, the track celebrates its 30-year anniversary on June 20–21 alongside a Latvia Championship round. Aloja consistently attracts both local riders and international guests, and the event is one of the most-watched of the season.

The Aloja track suits experienced riders and active competitors. Training options are available by direct arrangement with the track administration and the local MX club. This is where the Northern Vidzeme motocross school operates and where several Latvia Cup and National Cup rounds run each season — a useful way to see how a high-level motocross event runs in person.

Complete beginners are better off building basic skills at the smaller rental-friendly tracks before stepping into Aloja's layout. The current training and competition schedule is published by LaMSF.

6. Pīlādži motocross track — Stelpe, Bauska district

The Pīlādži track in Stelpe parish is the traditional final stop of the Latvia Championship season. In 2026, the championship finale runs there on September 5–6. From 2014 through 2019, Pīlādži hosted FIM Sidecarcross World Championship rounds for five consecutive years — during that period the track was upgraded substantially to meet international FIM requirements.

Pīlādži is both technical and fast — with long jumps and challenging terrain better suited to riders with experience. The track sits roughly 85 km south of Riga and is accessible both from the Bauska direction and from the Riga–Daugavpils highway side. Training availability outside competition weekends needs to be coordinated directly with the track organisers, and updated schedules are regularly posted on LaMSF channels and the competition calendar at licences.lv.

Stelpe is a good choice if you want a real championship-track experience without the world-class scale of Madona. The atmosphere is friendly and community-driven — a strong cross-section of the Latvian motocross scene.

7. Silavotiņi motocross track — Saldus

Silavotiņi is the home track of Saldus motoklubs in Kurzeme, one of Latvia's strongest motorsport regions. Saldus motoklubs has spent many years near the top of the Latvia National Cup team standings, and its track sits a few kilometres from Saldus town centre at coordinates 56.649639, 22.430889.

Silavotiņi is well maintained, with mixed-surface sections and jumps that work for beginners on club days and for experienced riders alike. The track hosts the Saldus regional cup and the O. Kalpaka memorial team cup, both organised by the Saldus motorcycle club.

Training mainly happens on club days and pre-competition windows — before driving over, contact Saldus motoklubs or MX Saldus social channels to confirm track access. If you combine a trip to Silavotiņi with a Kurzeme route, you can also visit Misiņkalns in Aizpute — the two venues are reasonably close and pair well into a weekend motocross trip.

How much does motocross cost in Latvia?

Motocross costs in Latvia are dramatically lower than in most of Europe. Track day rates average €8–15, motorcycle rental at "333" and MLMOTO starts from €40–60 per session (depending on engine class), and a full set of motocross gear new or lightly used runs €400–900 (helmet €120–300, motocross boots €120–250, spine protector €60–120, goggles and gloves €40–80).

For comparison: a single supervised training session at "333" in Ropaži costs less than €60 — a sensible way to try motocross firsthand before buying a bike. It works out to roughly the same as two dinners out or half of a group karting evening.

When motocross adrenaline isn't enough anymore

Motocross is one of the most physically demanding sports in Latvia, but the adrenaline is controlled — it depends on your speed, skill and the track. For riders who have already pushed their limits at Smeceres sils or Pīlādži, there is one more level: free-fall from 4,000 or 5,500 metres.

A tandem skydive from 4,000 metres reaches speeds of around 200 km/h in roughly 60 seconds of free-fall — that's about twice as fast as the world's top motocross riders at peak jump speed, and the sensation is completely different: no handlebars, no clutch, no wheels. A Skydive Latvia tandem jump is €249 including all equipment and the instructor.

For those who have already pushed beyond their physical adrenaline threshold, there is another option: the Oxygen Jump from 5,500 m — the highest civilian tandem skydive in Eastern Europe. The free-fall lasts around 90 seconds, speed reaches around 220 km/h, and because of the lower oxygen levels above 5,000 m, the jump is performed with supplementary oxygen. The price is €490.

Skydive Latvia operates from Limbaži airfield, about an hour's drive north of Riga and not far from the Aloja motocross track. The jumping season runs April–October, and if weather conditions don't allow a jump, it simply reschedules. The short video below shows what a tandem jump from the Skydive Latvia perspective actually looks like.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need my own motorcycle to ride motocross in Latvia?

Not necessarily. Sports complex "333" in Ropaži and MLMOTO in Slampe offer motocross bike and gear rental together with first-time instruction. This lets someone without their own equipment try motocross with full support from a professional instructor. The bigger championship tracks (Madona, Aizpute, Aloja, Stelpe) generally do require your own bike and full gear.

How much does a beginner motocross session cost?

With a rented bike and gear, an individual beginner session at "333" or MLMOTO costs roughly €60–100 depending on duration and instructor availability. A simple track day rate without rental and tuition starts from €8–15. Compared to several other European countries this is several times cheaper.

What is the minimum age for motocross in Latvia?

In Latvia, children can start motocross from age 5–6 on MX50-class bikes at dedicated children's tracks (for example the "333" kids' track for 50 cc bikes). For adults there is no specific minimum age, but the track operator can require a signed waiver and appropriate safety gear regardless of age.

Is motocross available year-round in Latvia?

Most Latvian motocross tracks run April through October. The enclosed-type tracks at "333" in Ropaži and MLMOTO in Slampe are the only places where you can also ride in winter, conditions permitting. The major championship tracks (Madona, Aizpute, Aloja, Stelpe) are usually closed during the winter months.

Which Latvian motocross track is best for beginners?

The best beginner choice is sports complex "333" in Ropaži, because it's only 30 km from Riga, operates year-round as an enclosed track, and offers motorcycle rental together with individual instruction. A strong second option is MLMOTO in Slampe — similar format, less crowded, and a beginner-oriented coaching approach.

How do I know if motocross adrenaline is right for me before buying a bike?

Start with one rental training session at "333" or MLMOTO — for €60–100 you'll get a real sense of the physical demands, control challenge and adrenaline of motocross. After 2–3 sessions like this you'll know whether to continue with your own bike. Another route is attending a Latvia Championship round (for example in Madona or Aizpute) and watching the sport live before deciding.
