SAFETY & POPULAR MYTHS

Answers to the main questions and concerns

Start here

A tandem jump is 100% an attraction, not an extreme sport! You are securely attached to a professional instructor with a special harness system, sharing one parachute. The instructor does absolutely all the technical work — you don't have to do anything except enjoy the adventure!

No need for:

  • Previous experience or training
  • Physical fitness or strength
  • Special courage or "superpowers"

Tandem jumping is available for everyone — from 16 to 100+ years old! We have successfully jumped with people who were previously afraid of even ladders. After a 15-minute briefing, you'll be ready to fly!

💡 If you can sit and lift your legs — you can skydive! It really is THAT simple.

SUPER SAFE! Modern tandem skydiving is an extremely safe attraction. Statistically, it's safer than driving to the airfield. Skydive Latvia uses carefully inspected equipment and highly qualified instructors with thousands of jumps experience.

The tandem system is specifically designed for passengers without experience — it's as safe as flying on an airplane or riding a roller coaster!

You have triple protection:

  • Main parachute — the primary canopy
  • Reserve parachute — packed and inspected by certified specialists every 180 days
  • AAD (Automatic Activation Device) — a computer that automatically deploys the reserve parachute if needed

Technology protects you at all times. Even if the instructor couldn't act, the AAD would ensure a safe landing.

NO! This is the most popular myth. On roller coasters, you fall from a standstill. In our plane, you're already moving at 160 km/h — when you exit, you smoothly transition onto an "air cushion". The feeling is like flying, not falling!

💡 Imagine sticking your hand out of a moving car window — that sensation, but for your whole body!

You absolutely can! At 4000 meters altitude, there's plenty of oxygen. The wind is intense, but breathing is easy.

💡 Pro tip: If you feel like you can't inhale — scream! Screaming forces you to exhale, and your body automatically takes a deep breath.

Your heart is made for adrenaline! The same "fight or flight" response that helped our ancestors survive. For a healthy heart, an adrenaline rush poses no risk — it's like intense exercise, such as running or climbing stairs.

If you have heart problems, consult a doctor before jumping. But fear alone won't stop a healthy heart.

Panic attacks are unpleasant, but not dangerous. And here's the magic: the moment you exit the plane, panic disappears. The overwhelming sensation leaves no room for anxiety — your brain switches from "what if?" to "WOW!"

Thousands of people with anxiety have successfully completed tandem jumps. Many say it was therapeutic — proof to themselves that they can do much more than they thought!

💡 The instructor is trained to help nervous jumpers. You're never alone!

Surprisingly, fear of heights often doesn't interfere! At 4000m altitude, the brain can't process height normally — there are no nearby objects for comparison. It looks more like a map than real height.

Many people who are afraid of ladders and balconies love skydiving because it feels completely different!

Our tandem instructors have thousands of jumps experience. They undergo intensive training, regular recertification, and constantly practice emergency procedures. You're in safe hands!

Pilatus Porter PC-6 — one of the world's best skydiving aircraft. It efficiently climbs to 4000m, giving you a full 60-second freefall — almost twice as long as many other places in Europe!

Who can jump?

Minimum age is 18 years.

Exception: 16-17 year olds can jump ONLY with written parental consent AND a parent physically present at the airfield to sign documents.

There is no maximum age limit! People aged 70, 80, and even over 100 have successfully completed tandem jumps. 🎉

For safety and proper harness fit, we use a height/weight ratio. For technical reasons, we cannot perform jumps with people heavier than 105 kg.

Full height/weight table:

Height Max. weight Height Max. weight
145 cm 66 kg 172 cm 89 kg
147 cm 68 kg 175 cm 91 kg
152 cm 70 kg 177 cm 95 kg
154 cm 73 kg 180 cm 100 kg
157 cm 76 kg 182 cm 102 kg
160 cm 78 kg 185 cm 105 kg
162 cm 80 kg 187 cm 105 kg
165 cm 83 kg 190 cm 105 kg
167 cm 85 kg 193 cm 105 kg
170 cm 87 kg 196-200 cm 105 kg

For AFF training, maximum weight is 100 kg. If you're close to the limit, contact us before booking!

Tandem Jump

4000 meters (approximately 13,000 feet) — this gives you:

  • ~60 seconds of freefall at ~200 km/h
  • 5-7 minutes of peaceful flight under the canopy with panoramic views

That's almost twice as long as many other places in Europe!

Just a 15-20 minute briefing on jump day:

  • Body position ("banana" arch)
  • How to exit the aircraft
  • How to lift your legs during landing
  • Hand signals during the jump

That's it! No special physical preparation needed.

Plan for 2-3 hours at the airfield:

  • Registration & documents (30 min)
  • Briefing (15 min)
  • Waiting & gearing up (30-60 min)
  • Flight to altitude (15-20 min)
  • Jump (~7 min)
  • Post-jump (30 min)

⚠️ Weather conditions may extend waiting time. Keep your day free!

Very gentle with modern parachutes! Before touching the ground, the instructor will ask you to lift your legs at ~90 degrees. The instructor touches down first and controls the landing.

Most landings are soft — either standing up or sliding in on your seat. Nothing like old military jumps!

Oxygen Jump 5.5km

Our premium experience — a tandem jump from an extreme 5500 meters (18,000 feet). This is one of the highest civilian tandem jumps in Eastern Europe!

An exclusive adventure for those who want the maximum! 🏆

Above 4500 meters, the air becomes too thin for normal breathing over extended periods. To keep you comfortable and alert during the climb (15-20 min), you'll breathe supplemental oxygen through a mask — just like a fighter pilot! ✈️

The mask is removed just before exit — the rapid descent returns you to oxygen-rich air in seconds.

50% more freefall!

Standard tandem (4000m) ~60 seconds
Oxygen Jump (5500m) ~90 seconds

These extra 30 seconds give your brain time to overcome the initial shock and truly enjoy the Baltic landscape views!

  • ✓ Tandem jump from 5500m with a highly qualified instructor
  • ✓ Oxygen system and mask
  • ✓ Specialized high-altitude suit and equipment
  • ✓ Professional video (~3.5 min edited) and high-resolution photos
  • ✓ Commemorative certificate

It's a bit cooler at altitude than on the ground, but don't worry — the aircraft cabin is warm, and the freefall is so fast you'll barely notice the temperature difference!

Clothing by season:

April, May, October, November: We recommend thermal layers underneath, warm gloves, and double socks.

June, July, August, early September: A tracksuit or even shorts is enough!

💡 Contact our team before your jump — we'll recommend the exact clothing based on the specific day's weather conditions.

AFF Training

Accelerated Freefall — the fastest path to becoming a solo skydiver. From the first jump, you have your own parachute. Instructors initially hold onto you, gradually letting go as your skills develop.

Skydive Latvia is the only dropzone in the Baltics with USPA and FAI certification — your license is recognized worldwide!

Ground school (4-6 hours): Theory on equipment, aerodynamics, body position, and emergency procedures.

Levels 1-3: Jumps with two instructors holding onto you — learn stability and parachute deployment.

Levels 4-7: One instructor — learn turns, forward movement, and more complex maneuvers.

Level 8: Graduation jump — you exit solo and demonstrate full competence!

All jumps from 4000m with a full 60-second freefall for practice.

Intensive: With good weather, you can complete all 8 levels in 3-5 days

Booking & Preparation

You can book a jump online at skydive.lv:

Choose your date, time, and pay to confirm. Gift cards can be used during booking. Summer weekends fill up fast — book early!

Skydiving is dependent on weather conditions, so precise times can often only be scheduled at the last minute.

We will send you information asking you to confirm your arrival one day before your chosen jump date, when the weather forecast is more accurate.

The entire activity — arrival, training, climb, and jump — takes an average of about 3 hours.

Attention! Due to weather conditions, limited air traffic, and other reasons beyond our control, jumps can be delayed by several hours.

💡 Please don't plan anything urgent on jump day. Bring a book, snacks, and patience!

Remember the skydiver's saying: "Better to be on the ground wishing you were in the sky, than in the sky wishing you were on the ground!"

  • Bring lace-up athletic shoes
  • Fitted athletic clothing to wear under the special skydiving suit
  • We'll provide the special suit and goggles on site
  • If you want to jump in your own clothes — that's possible, just note they may get dirty

Avoid: Sandals, high heels, boots with hooks, loose/flowing clothing

Hair: Long hair must be tied back — braids work best

Jewelry: Remove all jewelry and watches. Empty your pockets.

  • Valid ID document (required!)
  • ✓ Hair tie if needed
  • ✓ Sunscreen for waiting time
  • ✓ Patience and flexibility (delays happen!)

Eat: Yes — a light meal 1-2 hours before. Don't skip meals (increases nausea risk).

Drink: Plenty of water.

Absolutely NO alcohol or drugs — zero tolerance, you will be refused!

Skydiving is 100% weather dependent. We can't jump in rain, low cloud cover, or strong wind.

If weather doesn't permit:

  • We'll contact you (usually evening or morning before)
  • Weather cancellation = free reschedule to another date
  • If you arrive and weather is questionable, you can wait for improvement

Yes! Spectators are welcome in the viewing area at Limbaži Airfield. They can watch the takeoff, see you land with the parachute, and celebrate your landing!

⚠️ Children must be supervised at all times — it's an active airfield zone.

Photo & Video

No — strict safety rule. Cameras can snag on parachute lines. Only skydivers with 200+ jumps are allowed to wear cameras.

Our professionals will capture your adventure safely and with much better quality! 📹

Along with you and the tandem instructor, a professional cameraman also jumps, capturing the preparation process and the flight itself in both video and high-quality photos.

The cameraman has another positive quality — falling right in front of your eyes, they'll smile, wave, and entertain you in various ways, helping you relax and get maximum enjoyment from the jump! 😊

Video and photos are carefully processed and edited so you receive a professional result. Typically, materials are ready within a few days after the jump.

Video and photos are already included in the Oxygen Jump package!
